Monday, September 16th, 1963: NL Honors San Francisco First Baseman
Orlando Cepeda is respected by most San Francisco Giants fans for his no-frills style of play. The 25-year-old first baseman went about his business with vigor last week to grab the National Player of the Week honors.

He compiled a .421 average (8-19) with 3 home runs, 5 RBIs and 4 runs scored.

So far this year Cepeda has hit .291 with 24 home runs, 74 RBIs and 95 runs scored.
Monday, September 16th, 1963: Howard Collects Player of the Week Award
At the age of 34, Elston Howard might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The New York catcher put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days collecting the American Player of the Week Award.

He racked up 15 hits in 26 at-bats, 3 home runs and 9 RBIs last week in 6 games.

This year Howard is hitting at a .279 pace with 17 home runs and 96 RBIs. He has played in 147 games and scored 54 times.
Saturday, September 14th, 1963: Baltimore Loses Adair for Season
The news is bad in Baltimore. The Orioles have lost the services of shortstop Jerry Adair for the rest of the season due to a scratched cornea. Adair was injured in a recent game with the Detroit Tigers while colliding with a player at a base and is expected to miss 3 weeks.

Adair is presently hitting at a .288 pace with 4 home runs, 44 RBIs and has scored 69 times.
