Saturday, June 7th, 1969: Groat Batters St. Louis Big Time
5 hits in 5 at-bats. It doesn't happen every day, and when it does, it's exciting. Today Dick Groat of the Cincinnati Reds had a sensational 5-5 game against St. Louis at Crosley Field. He rifled base hits all over the ballpark in his team's 2-1 shellacking of the Cardinals.

In the postgame press conference he joked, "Heck, that's a week's worth of hitting for me and I did it all in one day. I guess I can take the rest of the week off... Right, skipper?"

D. Groat singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 9th and hit a solo-shot off D. Frisella in the 11th.

In 56 games Groat is hitting .310 this season for the Reds with 54 hits, 3 home runs, 17 RBIs, 9 walks, .348 OBP and has scored 19 runs.
