Saturday, July 19th, 1969: Hit #2000 for Athletics Banks
The day belonged to Ernie Banks of the Oakland Athletics as he became the latest player to reach the 2000-hit plateau. He did it in Oakland's 6-4 win over New York (A).

"It's a moment I'll never forget," said Banks after the game, "2000 hits is a lot. It puts you in a very select group. I never expected to be around long enough to reach a milestone like this."

He finished the day with 1 hits in 4 at-bats.

In 2146 games Banks has a career .269 batting average and a .324 on-base percentage. He has hit 439 home runs with 1272 RBIs and 1094 runs scored.
