Tuesday, August 5th, 1969: Braves Pitching Ravaged by Carew
It was a good day all around. Minnesota whipped Atlanta 8-6 and Rod Carew displayed a hot bat, enjoying an outstanding 5-hit day at Metropolitan Stadium.

"Some days, lady luck is on your side," he modestly told BNN reporters after the game. His manager told the beat writers otherwise, "His hitting wasn't luck today. It's his solid approach to hitting. Rod is focused, patient and he hits to all fields. The more solid at-bats you put together, the more success you're going to have."

The 23-year-old second baseman for the Twins collected 5 hits in 5 at-bats to get his name in the record book.

R. Carew singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 7th and hit a three-run home run off J. Ray in the 9th.

A look at his season totals shows Carew with 6 home runs, .399 BA, .436 OBP, 36 RBIs and 67 runs scored.
