 | Monday, August 18th, 1969: Koufax Sensational, 17 Ks Sandy Koufax of the New York (N) Mets struck out an amazing 17 batters today at Shea Stadium and whipped the Houston Astros 3-1. Koufax allowed 5 hits and gave up 1 walk in a sensational mound performance. "I really felt like I had complete command of all my pitches during the game," said a smiling Koufax when asked about his stellar outing. "These types of games don't happen all the time, so I'm going to savor this one for a while." On his stats sheet this season Koufax shows a 11-8 record, 25 starts, 187 innings, 205 strikeouts and a 2.74 ERA. |
