Wednesday, August 1st, 1962: Mickey Mantle out of Lineup, Listed DTD
New York's star center fielder Mickey Mantle injured himself in a game against the Washington Senators, prompting the team to list him as day-to-day. The doctors are reporting the injury as a bruised wrist and they say the best medicine is a short period of rest. "Hopefully I don't get replaced by some hotshot wannabe," said Mantle with a smile as he talked to reporters.

For the year Mantle is batting .362 with 130 hits and 24 home runs. He has scored 79 times and driven in 64.
