ORB2 News Article | | | Sunday, August 5th, 1962: Peters Spins Shutout "That's one thing that has never changed in this game -- pitching can control hitting," the White Sox manager told reporters after today's game.
The Yankees ran into a buzzsaw as Gary Peters cut them down to size 2-0 with a 2-hit shutout.
His skipper added, "He knows exactly what he's doing. He's not going to throw you a good pitch until you make him throw one."
In the complete game whitewash the Chicago hurler doled out no walks and registered 4 strikeouts.
In the postgame press conference his catcher said, "Gary goes out there and just goes about his business. I don't think he gets too concerned about what's going on. You can call any pitch and you know where he's going to be."
Peters also got some praise from the New York manager.
"He really kept us in check today. Everything looked to be moving. Seemed like the pitch was right down the middle and it went over down and away... we took some pathetic swings."
This season Peters has gone 2-6 with an ERA of 3.51, posting 47 strikeouts in 77 innings. | |
