Independence League News Article | | | Thursday, June 26th, 1969: League Issues 10-Game Suspensions for Brawl When fights happen, suspensions are not far behind. That axiom was held to be true today when Vancouver's Cal Emery and Jacksonville's Joe Unknown were given a temporary vacation from the game, courtesy of the league commissioner's office.
They both were suspended for 10 games for their actions in a recent ruckus between the two teams. Both benches cleared when Emery charged Unknown.
Both players have accepted their fate and will begin serving their suspensions immediately. Neither would talk to reporters about the confrontation.
To date Emery has chalked up a .247 average with 1 home run, driven in 15 runs and scored 8 times.
