Independence League News Article | |  | Saturday, August 9th, 1969: McFadden Batters Denver Big Time 6 times is a charm -- at least in the world of baseball. When a player gets 5 or more hits in a game, he is honored in the record book and the latest honoree is Leon McFadden of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He tore up the Denver Bears to the tune of 6 hits in 6 at-bats in the Toronto 22-0 win today at Arlington Stadium.
"McFadden was a tough out today," the Denver manager said to the press in the postgame interview. "He hit some very good pitches with that quick bat of his. Not an easy out, that's for sure."
L. McFadden hit an RBI single in the 2nd, hit a two-run triple in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off T. Fisher in the 7th and hit a two-run single in the 8th.
On the season, McFadden is batting .311 with 1 home run and 15 RBIs. He has played in 81 games. | |
