Sunday, September 21st, 1969: Best Defenders Announced by KMLL
"Ball hawk" is a good name for the members of the defensive elite, the players who make leather shine. The fielders who crashed the wall, leaped in the air, and dived in the hole better than any others during 1969 have been tabbed as the Kenesaw Mountain Landis League's Slick Fielder Award winners. Here are this year's best:

Pitcher: Fred Beene (Louisville Colonels)
Catcher: Jerry May (Atlanta Braves)
First Baseman: Wes Parker (Texas Rangers)
Second Baseman: Roberto Pena (Toronto Maple Leafs)
Third Baseman: Steve Hertz (Rochester Red Wings)
Shortstop: Dick Howser (Denver Bears)
Left Fielder: Frank Johnson (Columbus Clippers)
Center Fielder: Vic Davalillo (Columbus Clippers)
Right Fielder: Billy Conigliaro (Omaha Dodgers)
