Independence League News Article | | | Sunday, September 1st, 1968: Red-Hot Davis Scorches 89ers 5 hits in a game has always been a magic number in baseball. Only a handful of players will do that. Get 5 hits in a game and you get your moment of glory... your 5 minutes of fame... you get your name in the record book.
In the Dukes 10-1 win over Oklahoma City, Brock Davis was red-hot today, scorching them for hit after hit at Autozone Park.
"To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax. I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I must admit, I got a little tight when I realized I had a chance for a 5-hit game. On the last at-bat, I was ready to swing at anything close."
On his big day Davis delivered 5 hits in 6 at-bats.
B. Davis singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 8th and hit a two-run home run off B. Howard in the 9th.
Davis is hitting .299 in 1968 with 39 RBIs and 1 home run. | |
