Wednesday, August 21st, 1963: Mathews Slugs 400th Home Run
Chicago's 6-3 victory over Boston was highlighted by Eddie Mathews's 400th career home run. His teammates congratulated him at home plate after he circled the bases.

"I didn't see all of them out there," Mathews said with a chuckle, "until I rounded third base." He added sheepishly: "It was only a home run. It's not like I won us a World Series!"

In 5 at-bats the White Sox third baseman collected 1 hit in his historic game, scored 2 runs, and had 1 RBI.

Lifetime Mathews has hit .284 with 1673 hits, 400 home runs, 1079 RBIs and scored 1111 runs.
Friday, August 2nd, 1963: Monbouquette Tosses Shutout for Boston
Bill Monbouquette held the Senators to 6 harmless hits as the Boston Red Sox whitewashed Washington by a 10-0. Monbouquette had no walks and 9 strikeouts in the win.
