The Islanders were victorious 3-2 in the series after completing the regular season 84-46 and finishing in first place in the Alexander Cartwright League.
The losing manager had his say, too, telling reporters, "Despite the loss, this year has been a pretty good story, a doggone good story. I'm proud of my guys. We had great veteran leadership and we had players that never gave up -- no quit in us at all. And it got us here. And I'm proud of that. I think you might see the Indians back here soon." |  | Sunday, August 4th, 1963: Narum Hurls No-Hitter Against Bears Buster Narum relied on excellent pitch selection and pinpoint control to hold Denver hitless in his 5-0 win.
"I stayed ahead of batters," he said after the game, "and was able to get a lot of quick outs. My defense deserves a lot of credit too. They had to be on their toes and they saved me several times."
The 22-year-old starter rung up 14 strikeouts and 1 walk in whipping the Bears.
"When a guy is throwing strikes the way he was and is locating well, it is going to be a long day for any club," the Denver skipper said.
In 28 starts this season Narum has notched a 14-4 record and a 2.64 ERA. |  | Monday, July 1st, 1963: SL1 Batter of the Month Honors to Martin June's Batter of the Month has been chosen by the Sub League 1. This month's trophy was awarded to the Indianapolis catcher, J.C. Martin.
