Wednesday, August 28th, 1963: Hawaii Islanders Win Round 1
"This is why we play the game," commented Hawaii's manager after his club captured their 1st Round 1 crown by whipping the Indianapolis Indians 11-2 today at Honolulu Stadium.

"Baseball don't get any better than this."

The Islanders were victorious 3-2 in the series after completing the regular season 84-46 and finishing in first place in the Alexander Cartwright League.

The losing manager had his say, too, telling reporters, "Despite the loss, this year has been a pretty good story, a doggone good story. I'm proud of my guys. We had great veteran leadership and we had players that never gave up -- no quit in us at all. And it got us here. And I'm proud of that. I think you might see the Indians back here soon."
Sunday, August 4th, 1963: Narum Hurls No-Hitter Against Bears
Buster Narum relied on excellent pitch selection and pinpoint control to hold Denver hitless in his 5-0 win.

"I stayed ahead of batters," he said after the game, "and was able to get a lot of quick outs. My defense deserves a lot of credit too. They had to be on their toes and they saved me several times."

The 22-year-old starter rung up 14 strikeouts and 1 walk in whipping the Bears.

"When a guy is throwing strikes the way he was and is locating well, it is going to be a long day for any club," the Denver skipper said.

In 28 starts this season Narum has notched a 14-4 record and a 2.64 ERA.
