Tuesday, June 23rd, 1964: Friend Fires Shutout in Indians Victory
It turns out that Cleveland's Bob Friend needed little run support to beat Minnesota today 7-0 at Cleveland Stadium. In a solid outing Friend recorded 3 strikeouts and 1 walk as he held the Twins to 6 hits and shut them out.

In 15 starts this season, Friend has recorded 7 wins and absorbed 4 losses. He has pitched 107.1 innings, allowed 113 hits, struck out 58 and has a 3.44 ERA.
Wednesday, June 17th, 1964: Goryl Batters Cleveland for 5 Hits
Johnny Goryl of the Twins was unstoppable in today's 10-5 victory over the Cleveland Indians at Metropolitan Stadium. He battered them for 5 hits in 5 at-bats.

"Boy, I was on the mark today," said the Minnesota second baseman after the game. "I could see the ball real well. It's a great feeling to do this. And besides, 5-5 won't hurt your batting average like 0-5 will."

J. Goryl singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off B. Schultz in the 7th, hit a solo-shot off B. Schultz in the 8th and walked in the 9th.

Thus far this year Goryl has hit .326 with 2 home runs and 6 RBIs.
Monday, June 15th, 1964: Indians Bailey Gone for Year
The doctors have spoken and Ed Bailey of the Cleveland Indians didn't like what he heard. The 33-year-old catcher is almost certainly gone for the rest of the year and depending on his progress could miss some of next season as well. Bailey sustained his season-ending injury during the Minnesota Twins game yesterday at Cleveland Stadium. He had to leave the game because he hurt himself while running the bases. Today the Cleveland medical staff reported Bailey had a torn posterior cruciate ligament and would be absent from the lineup for at least 8 months.

In his 1964 season totals, Bailey has 8 home runs, .188 BA, .307 OBP, 28 RBIs and 24 runs scored.
