Sunday, September 1st, 1963: Donovan Strong-Arms Detroit
Dick Donovan allowed 6 hits while giving up 4 walks and collecting 4 strikeouts as Cleveland blanked Detroit 1-0.

In the postgame interview Donovan said, "I'm trying to keep the ball down and let guys put it in play. It worked for me today."

Monday, August 19th, 1963: AL's Star Player Named
At the age of 28, Al Kaline might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Detroit center fielder put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days collecting the American Player of the Week Award.

He racked up 13 hits in 25 at-bats, 1 home run and 7 RBIs last week in 7 games.

Thus far this year Kaline has hit .247 with 21 home runs and 68 RBIs.
Friday, August 9th, 1963: White Sox Blank Detroit, Roberts Winner
Speaking after the game, the Chicago manager said, "Robin Roberts had everything going for him. He changed speeds effectively, stayed down, had a lot of movement... he had it all... masterful."

Roberts held the Detroit Tigers to 1 hit and fashioned a fine 2-0 shutout. He had no walks and 5 strikeouts in the game.

"We couldn't get anything going. He certainly had our number," the Detroit skipper told reporters.

In 1963 Roberts has worked 146 innings with 74 strikeouts en route to a 8-10 record and 3.95 ERA.
