| Breaking News |  | Monday, September 1st, 1969: Freeze Starter Wins ACL Pitching Award
There's something about a young rookie winning the Alexander Cartwright League Pitcher of the Month trophy that sends shock waves through the league. Such is the case with Mike Corkins, a 23-year-old starter for the Fort Wayne Freeze.
In August, he topped off the month with a 4-1 mark and 0.68 ERA in 6 starts, tossed 40 innings, fanned 41 and held opposing teams to a .169 average.
This season Corkins has a 12-7 record with a 2.16 ERA.

 | Monday, August 25th, 1969: Lersch Pitches Gem against Fort Wayne
"That was one of my best outings," said Barry Lersch. "I was worried a lot in the bullpen. My ball wasn't quite right. Luckily, it can be two different worlds -- the bullpen and the game. Once I stepped on the field, it all fell into place."
It was an impressive start for the Rainiers hurler. He blanked the Freeze 1-0 on a strong 4-hitter while ringing up 7 strikeouts and doling out no walks.
Over the season Lersch has thrown 163 innings and dished out 150 strikeouts with a 14-4 mark and a 2.48 ERA.

Bill Graham of the Fort Wayne Freeze not only shut out Spokane 1-0, he made it look effortless. Graham stopped them on 4 hits to help the Freeze cruise past the Chiefs. His performance included 14 strikeouts and 1 walk.
In the 1969 season Graham has recorded a 7-7 mark. In 19 starts he has fanned 171 batters in 143.1 innings with a 2.32 ERA.
