Friday, June 26th, 1964: 5-Hit Game for Cardenal
At Metropolitan Stadium Jose Cardenal was the King of Swing today in the 7-5 win over the White Sox. The Minnesota center fielder stepped into the batter's box 5 times against the Chicago and delivered 5 hits.

It was a sensational game for him. He told the press, "Unbelievable feeling. It felt good. 5 for 5! It does wonders for your batting average, too."

J. Cardenal singled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th and hit a solo-shot off H. Fanok in the 8th.

This year Cardenal is batting .289 with 14 home runs and 46 RBIs. In 71 games he has scored 59 times.
Tuesday, June 23rd, 1964: Friend Fires Shutout in Indians Victory
It turns out that Cleveland's Bob Friend needed little run support to beat Minnesota today 7-0 at Cleveland Stadium. In a solid outing Friend recorded 3 strikeouts and 1 walk as he held the Twins to 6 hits and shut them out.

In 15 starts this season, Friend has recorded 7 wins and absorbed 4 losses. He has pitched 107.1 innings, allowed 113 hits, struck out 58 and has a 3.44 ERA.
Wednesday, June 17th, 1964: Goryl Batters Cleveland for 5 Hits
Johnny Goryl of the Twins was unstoppable in today's 10-5 victory over the Cleveland Indians at Metropolitan Stadium. He battered them for 5 hits in 5 at-bats.

"Boy, I was on the mark today," said the Minnesota second baseman after the game. "I could see the ball real well. It's a great feeling to do this. And besides, 5-5 won't hurt your batting average like 0-5 will."

J. Goryl singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off B. Schultz in the 7th, hit a solo-shot off B. Schultz in the 8th and walked in the 9th.

Thus far this year Goryl has hit .326 with 2 home runs and 6 RBIs.
