| Breaking News | | Sunday, September 30th, 1962: Sheldon Fashions Shutout Against White Sox The White Sox tried, but could not solve New York's Rollie Sheldon, falling to the Yankees 5-0. Chicago managed only 6 hits off Sheldon, who kept opposing hitters guessing all day. In a strong route-going performance he had 6 strikeouts and walked 3.
In 1962 Sheldon has a 15-9 record with a 2.94 ERA in 34 starts. | | Wednesday, September 26th, 1962: Year Over for Yankees Tresh The doctors have spoken and Tom Tresh of the New York Yankees didn't like what he heard. The 25-year-old shortstop is almost certainly gone for the rest of the year and depending on his progress could miss some of next season as well. Tresh sustained his season-ending injury during the Washington Senators game yesterday at Yankee Stadium I. He had to leave the game because he hurt himself while colliding with a player at a base. Today the New York medical staff reported Tresh had back spasms and would be absent from the lineup for at least 8 months.
Tresh is batting .282 in 1962 with 12 home runs, 49 RBIs and 77 runs scored. He has 123 hits in 436 at-bats. | | Monday, September 3rd, 1962: Thomas Bangs out 5 Base Hits After the Los Angeles 12-4 victory over New York and his 5-hit day right fielder George Thomas told BNN beat writers, "It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college ball, two hits in a game is very good... three or four hits even better... 5 or more are out of sight... and if it is in pro ball... it is really something special. It will get you in the record books."
The 24-year-old player gained that distinction today at Dodger Stadium with a spectacular 5 for 6 game against the New York Yankees.
The skipper of the Angels spoke glowingly of Thomas, telling BNN writers, "His swing is getting there. We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. George did that to perfection today."
G. Thomas hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off J. Coates in the 7th and flied out in the 9th.
This season Thomas has hit at a .419 clip and produced 18 RBIs, 2 home runs and 12 runs scored. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | SS Tom Tresh | back spasms | 7-8 months | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 88-74, .543 PCT | | Position in Division | 3rd, 7.0 GB | | Record at home | 45-36, .556 PCT | | Record on the road | 43-38, .531 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 3-6, .333 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 22-29, .431 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 31-28, .525 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 57-46, .553 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 3-7, .300 PCT | | Record in April | 11-5, .688 PCT | | Record in May | 14-16, .467 PCT | | Record in June | 13-15, .464 PCT | | Record in July | 22-8, .733 PCT | | Record in August | 13-19, .406 PCT | | Record in September | 15-11, .577 PCT |
